Who do you want to be when you grow up?
I used to be scared of that question. Was my answer too audacious, too risky? At other times, too safe, too conventional? Nowadays, I don’t have an answer and I’m figuring it out as I go.
I’m very much into the startup world of moving quickly, whiteboarding, and eagerly failing. I’m also trying to understand how the financial world of investing and trading works. To many, that’s a red flag. The high fives and fist bumps versus the handshakes. A sign of two worlds that seem culturally at odds, mixing.
But I like connecting the dots.
I like asking questions about how industries fit together to make our world run and how we can often apply the principles of one field to absolutely revolutionize another.
I also know how to stay realistic. Cautiously dream. In fact, I’m often a tech skeptic. I don’t have Netflix. I would never buy an Alexa. I’d also like to run a fruit stand one day, or perhaps start a school in my homeland, Poland.
As I figure out how to do that, I’ve taken some time to experiment with different platforms on which to share my findings on the future of emerging technologies. While I’m not exactly building a startup or knee-deep in a research project (spoiler alert - this changed!), I am constantly immersing myself in communities where that is the norm. Through that, I’m insanely grateful to be peeking into the future.
Admittedly, it’s difficult living in the crazy fast world of entrepreneurship which always energizes you to go, go, go and create . . . while still being a student. Therefore, I’ll also write about my process reconciling:
the development of foundational knowledge to understand what others have discovered, with,
the own burning desire to discover or invent something myself.
I’ll be posting these seasonal reflections once every few months. With that, happy almost spring 🌷. Take it from someone whose iCloud storage keeps filling up with pictures, remember to put your phone away once in a while and live in the moment.
